I know that there are many of you who work in an English speaking environment, so maybe you need to attend meetings in English. There’s a perfect material for you: ’English for Meetings’ by Kenneth Thomson, which is part of the Express Series.
Let’s see some useful vocabulary with ”meeting”
Types of meeting:
Progress meeting = At this type of meeting you talk about what has been accomplished on a project.
Brainstorming meeting = If you need new ideas, you have this type of meeting.
Shareholder meeting = This is a meeting for a company’s investors.
Kick-off meeting = This type of meeting is held at the beginning of a project.
Team meeting = People who work in the same department have this type of meeting regularly.
Board meeting = This is a meeting of a company’s most senior managers.
Useful phrases:
to hold a meeting = to have a meeting
to arrange a meeting = to organize a meeting
to cancel a meeting = to decide not to hold a meeting and to tell people this
to postpone a meeting = to hold a meeting at a later time or date than originally planned
to chair a meeting = to lead a meeting
to attend a meeting = to go to a meeting
