Hello again,
Last time we talked about how to interrupt during a meeting. But how do you handle interruptions? Constant interruptions can make the meeting difficult, but here are some tips to help you manage them.
Don’t invite interruptions! Speak loudly and clearly. Be brief and to the point. People will interrupt if you take too much time.
Many people interrupt a meeting without meaning to, so don’t take it personally. Be polite and manage interruptions with phrases like:
’Hold on, please.’
’Do you mind if I finish?…As I was just saying… .’
’Sorry, but I haven’t finished what I was saying.’
’We’ll come back to you in a moment.’
’Let me come back to that later.’
’May I just finish!’
’Just a second, please. I promise we’ll come right back to you.’
Till next time, here is an exercise for you:
Put the words in the right order to make typical sentences for interrupting and dealing with interruptions:
1. what sorry I but saying I finished was haven’t
2. something I add would to like
3. here to I make a like if I’d point could
4. we’ll a you back moment come in to
5. back to me later let that come
6. but… up hold sorry to meeting the
7. about… what wait ?
8. do if mind finish you I ?
